I am trying to network a laptop with Windows 98 to a desktop computer with XP Pro.They are connected via a Linksys router and I have broadband cable. I can share an internet connection and share printers, but I cannot share files. On the XP machine, I can see the laptop but can't access its files.

When I try to add this group to the printer security I am only allowed to get groups from PR1 (the XP computer name). I have tried clicking the 'Location' button, but it still only shows me PR1. How can I give permission to the PRPrinters group if I can't see the Group list from the server?

can't map the network drive from the server event though I created the share and disabled the firewall for testing. So now when I repeat trying network access from my own PC, I can see C:\Documents and Settings\Kids2 as well - and also the new share for "Kids2 Documents" under My Network Places. Yet both remain inaccessible! This can't be happening, can it???? Still sounds like a local XP permissions screw-up.

I shut off both computers last night. Today, I just turned on both computers and the 98se "cannot" see itself on the Network Neighboorhood Put the XP one on first and let it start up fully before turning on the 98 one. Then again see the links below. anymore, and it can't see the XP computer either.

Vista keeps losing network
I've got an interesting problem I can't solve. I have three XP computers that are part of a home network. MSHOME is the workgroup for all three computers and the subnet is the same for all computers. The IP addresses are assigned by DHCP. DHCP is enabled on the TCPIP properties tab on all three PCs.
